Improve User Experience With the Product Model

When you look at building a data capability within an organisation, you generally find it falls into                                 one of three forms of data delivery models.

  1. request-based

  2. project-based

  3. product-based

The product-based model lifts from product management practices to develop data products that meet the needs of different roles within your organisation. By following product management principles, you really get a richer understanding of your customer which is your user.

You can build something that delivers data to them in a way that meets their needs that are specific to their day-to-day so they know where to go and get answers. They know when their needs change and can iterate on a product with you because they’re following that project flow.

We're in a product flow which means we're in a life cycle of user research,  building some new value, deploying that value, and measuring its impact. Then revisiting that understanding through research and that cycle continues for the life of the product. That’s how we maintain that business - technology alignment,  which delivers the value expected and allows us to deliver a great experience to the user.

To have a successful data capability and to roll that out over the enterprise,  you really need to  be in lockstep with the business. Based on the work we've done on the product based model of data delivery, it’s really something that allows you to maintain that alignment”.-Dave Findlay, CEO Fuse Data
